Solitude Lodge Starts to Take Shape

After the first two weeks of July and the walls are starting to rise. Located immediately in front of Vertebrae Lodge, the new Solitude lodge will be but a short walk across a deck.

Up the slope, behind the new lodge, the original Spruce Lodge can be seen.  Beside it, the Bath House addition offered the first indoor pumbing at Chatter Creek.  Many of Chatter Creek's clients have fond memories of the very close quarters, dormitory sleeping, pot-bellied stoves and outdoor facilities of "the Spruce Goose".

Using the outhouse in the middle of the night during a heavy snowstorm was one of life's more uplifting and memorable experiences.  In those days, Chatter Creek employed a most effective innovation, a styrofoam seat.  Not matter what the weather, no matter how cold the night might be, the seat was always instantly warm.  It was a joy to sit in the quiet of the night and watch the snow float down, sparkling in the light from the lodge porch.
